Rationale

As part of the assessment for ECL210, Literacy and Literature, this website illustrates effective teaching of writing and reading and the issues that surround the effectiveness of teaching. As part of the unit for Literacy and Literature, we look at different strategies and activities for teaching children in the early years of primary school how to read and write. Following that we look at handwriting, spelling, phonics and comprehension, which are all in some way or another, involved within reading and writing.

Literacy and Literature does not just stop at the end of the early years, it continues to develop right throughout your life, where you are continually developing different styles of writing. Within the base start in the early years at primary school, there will continue to be problems throughout the subject of English in the rest of education and into future work positions.

As part of effective teaching of writing and reading it is critical to provide feedback through assessment and monitoring work progress in children. Children need to learn from mistakes and provide positive reinforcement within their work.
